Do you need to travel in Australia for medical reasons?

You can apply for government financial assistance.

Please note

Your state or territory’s PATS office approves all subsidies. APAC Journey can’t approve subsidy applications and doesn’t process any scheme-related payments. We can provide you with documentation to assist your subsidy application, such as a breakdown of kilometres travelled and accommodation costs.

Government schemes

Our services are more accessible than you may think. Financial help is available for many patients and carers who need to travel for medical care.

Government schemes

Every Australian state and territory operates The Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS) for eligible rural or regional residents.

Please follow the relevant link below to learn more about the PATS scheme in your state or territory:

  • ACT—Interstate Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (IPTAS)

  • NSW—Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme

  • NT—Patient Assistance Travel Scheme

  • QLD—The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS)

  • SA—Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)

  • TAS—Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (PATS)

  • VIC—Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS)

  • WA: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS).

These schemes are in place to support patients, their families, and their carers by subsidising the costs of travel to and from their health care providers. They can also help to cover accommodation costs.

Private Health Insurance

Private health insurance policies often cover patients for rural and regional transport and accommodation support. Ask your private health provider today about what you’re entitled to.
